After a beautiful St. John's summer, students are heading back to school and it's ramping up to be a month chalked full of great events! 

September 7 - Genesis Centre Evolution Program Applications Due 

The Evolution program is for early stage start-ups and candidates who want to apply to the Genesis Centre to become a client. It is an 8-week – two-hour commitment weekly – intensive workshop to help entrepreneurs identify their markets and validate their idea. At the end of the 8 weeks, entrepreneurs have the opportunity to promote their venture to an industry panel at “Pitch & Pick”.

September 8 [2-4PM] - MCE Open House

Memorial Centre for Entrepreneurship invites ALL Memorial Faculty and Staff from any faculty or program to come and ask all your burning questions about MCE. You’ll also get to view their brand new vibrant co-working space and meet the staff and students behind the exciting work happening in the centre.

September 9 [12-2PM] - Project Sucseed Workshop

Visit the Enactus Team at the MUN Business building to get help with your Sucseed system! 

September 10 [2-5PM] Classical for a Cause

RIAC (Refugee Immigrant Advisory Council) is proud to present the concert, “Classical for a Cause” The concert will feature various local talent performing classical pieces from many great composers throughout time from Bach and Paganini to Cicoria and even locally known Kavanagh! 

September 12 [9AM-4PM] - Guest Advisor Program At Common Ground

Business Canada will be back with their Guest advisor program which sets you up with a free thirty minute advice (via appointment) with advisors! Don E Coady can lead you through a session to help you better understand and engage in key marketing / communications topics. September 12 [8am-11am] - St. John's BOT Speed Networking

An exciting, high impact and structured networking event that produces exceptional results.

September 13 [7-11PM] - Toss Some, Saw Some, Awesome

Twenty bucks gets you an axe-hilarating evening of axe tossing, tastefully filtered Instagram material and an excuse to later coconut oil on your biceps. Proceeds go to the St. John's Tool Library. 

September 14 [4:30PM-6:30PM] - St. John's BOT Time to Fiesta!

Taco bout a party! BOT members can enjoy this evening of fun! 

September 14 [7-9PM] - What's Next for St. John's? A Fundraiser for Dave Lane

Come discuss the future of St. John's with community leaders and support Dave's bid for re-election! Hosted by Don-E Coady of Dc Design House, we'll begin the evening with a viewing of a 1967 CBC Documentary entitled St. John's - A City's Story. This will be followed by a panel of community leaders in a discussion about the next 50 years moderated by Dave. 

September 15 [8:30AM-9:30AM] - Mayoral Open Mic

Join the St. John's BOT, CHBANL & The Telegram in hosting their first Mayoral Open Mic. 

September 16 [2-4PM] - #Adulting Basic Home Renovations

Safely doing more than you thought you could: that's the goal of FreeForm Events' third session of the #Adulting series. Mark Pottle of West Coast Woodworks will provide a foundation in basic home renovation -- building your confidence and your understanding of necessary safety precautions to work on your home generally, while providing a hands-on opportunity to learn to tile a backsplash and hang a picture/shelf correctly.

September 18 - MUN Graduate Entrepreneurial Training Program Applications Due

Memorial’s Entrepreneurship Training Program (ETP) is an education program for graduate students interested in starting a business and learning the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. Over a 16-week period, students attend workshops and events that help them build the skills, knowledge, and connections necessary to succeed as entrepreneurs.

September 19-20 - Invest Atlantic Conference

We’re bringing some of North America’s most noted investors, mentors and seasoned entrepreneurs together with the region’s newest and fastest growing companies for 2-days of focused discussions on everything from raising capital, getting collaborative to partnerships and succession planning.

September 19 [8:30-9:30AM] - Muncipal Candidates Pitch

Join the St. John's Board of Trade in partnership with The Telegram and the Canadian Home Builders Association Newfoundland and Labrador (CHBANL) as they host a candidates pitch session. 

September 20 [6:30-8:30PM] - Centre for Social Enterprise Presents Poverty INC

Drawing from over 200 interviews filmed in 20 countries, Poverty, Inc. unearths an uncomfortable side of charity we can no longer ignore. From TOMs Shoes to international adoptions, from solar panels to U.S. agricultural subsidies, the film challenges each of us to ask the tough question: Could I be part of the problem?

September 21 [2-5PM] - Genesis Evolution Pitch and Pick 

Genesis has delivered Evolution to this cohort in an eight week intensive workshop. See what's been brewing! The top seven start-ups have been selected to compete in this edition of Pitch & Pick and after they pitch, you pick!

September 23 [10AM-4PM] - EMBARK Conference

The inaugural EMBARK conference for entrepreneurship aims to promote entrepreneurship within the student community at MUN and inspire attendees to explore entrepreneurship to its full potential. The conference will feature an in depth discussion with Alex Mclean of East Coast Lifestyle, a panel with successful local entrepreneurs and a pitch competition. 

September 23 [10AM-4PM] - National Learn to Code Day

Ladies Learning code is hosting its fifth annual National Learn to Code Day. In this workshop, we’ll use a hands-on project based approach to learn how to put data to use for us in our everyday lives.

September 26 - St. John's Municipal Election

You will have the opportunity to determine your municipal governance for the next four years. Casting your ballot for Mayor, Deputy Mayor, At-Large Councillors and your respective Ward Councillor allows you to participate in electing officials who will make decisions on your behalf. September 27 [12-2PM] - Luncheon with Stephen S. Poloz, Governor of the Bank of Canada

Join the St. John’s Board of Trade for lunch and hear Governor Poloz speak about recent developments in the Canadian economy and the implications for monetary policy.

September 28 [5:00-7PM] - LYNK Leadership Lowdown

Learn how to propel your career forward with practical advice from Bev Evans and Natalie Hand. [More details to Follow]
