Every month we put together a list of events and happenings in the local innovation and entrepreneurial community! Here's what's coming up soon! 

Events at Common Ground: 

October 31 - Super Spooky Pancake Breakfast

Drop by between 8:30-10:30am our Harvey Rd location for some halloween fun (and pancakes!) Members from Water St. are welcome to work from the Harvey space for the day following the event!  

November 1 - 10 Lessons Learned from 10 Years in Advertising with Sophie Harrington

Join Sophie Harrington & Propel ICT for a fireside chat at our Harvey Road Location. Sophie Harrington is the VP Marketing & Strategy at Sequence Bio and was a Creative Director at M5 Marketing prior to that. 

November 9 - December 15 - The Y-Spark Program

The program's instructional model helps entrepreneurs develop their small business ideas and prepares entrepreneurs to launch and operate their businesses. Participants of the Y-Spark program will get the opportunity to develop their ideas in a supportive and collaborative environment while developing applicable business skills.

November 11 - GameDev NL Game Jam Prep Session 

From 3-8pm Gamedev NL will offer those interested in participating in the upcoming game jam (game making) event to strategize prior to the event! 

November 14 - Grant Proposal Writing Business Workshops for Artists Series (at the Neal Building)

This workshop will provide a comprehensive look at proposal development specifically focusing on writing formal grant applications.

November 15 / 16 -Mummer's Paint Nite (BIS) 

Here's your chance to paint a mummer masterpiece! Support theMummers Festival and make art all at once. Raise your glass to a NEW kind of night out! Paint Nite® and The Mummers Festival invite you to create art over cocktails at Benevolent Irish Society, guided by a professional artist and party host. Grab your friends and spend two hours drinking, laughing, and flexing your creative muscles. 

November 16 - the exam pass returns! 

For just $75 this pass gives students 24/7 access to a quiet, distraction free workspace with unlimited coffee for three weeks!  

November 22 - The Guest Advisor Program With Canada Business 

The Guest Advisor program will be returning to CG again in November to offer consultations with guest advisors who volunteer their time to help aspiring / existing entrepreneurs. 
November's advisor program will be held on November 22. The morning sessions will be with Cecile Klein, Business Development officer with CIPO and will offer advice on intellectual property, trademarks, copyright patents and industrial design.The afternoon sessions will be with Felicia Tupper, lawyer with Benson Buffet. Felicia can answer questions in regards to contracts, privacy, liability, leases, dispute resolution, business structure, shareholders / partnerships, intellectual property, buying / selling a business, licensing agreements, disclaimers & debt repayments. November 29 - Legal Clinic for Artists: One on One Legal Advising (Neal Building)

Sign up for a 30-minute appointment with a volunteer lawyer to receive advice on whether you’re getting good deal your songwriting contract, how to register your copyright on that painting you created, the legal implications of producing or exhibiting work in unconventional places, nd much more! Our volunteer attorneys will answer questions about intellectual property (including copyrights, trademarks, and licensing), arts and entertainment law issue, and mor. 


Community Events 

November 2-3 - W2W Empowering Leadership Conference

The Lantern’s Empowering Women Program seeks to develop leaders who will reinforce our already strong cultural ethic of care, and who are enthusiastic about widening that circle to include those of diverse backgrounds, brimming with untapped potential. The annual conference is a unique opportunity for women to work together in developing self-knowledge, honoring diversity, and looking to actionable examples to reach their own potential, and that of their workplaces.

November 4 - Meet an Immigrant

Hasan Hai will be making themself available to sit down in a friendly, judgement free chat at the Rocket Bakery to talk about world issues or what's happening right here in Newfoundland.

November 8 - MCE Lunch & Learn: Legal Workshop for Entrepreneurs

This will be part of a series to help entrepreneurs learn valuable skills. Lunch will be provided by MCE. 

November 8 - NLOWE Networking in St. John's

This events featured charity is the Ronald McDonald house, attendees are asked to bring a toy or gift card in support of their magic room. 

November 9 - FreeForm presents Live Dear Abby 

What's on your mind? In the fifth session of our #Adulting Series, we're bringing together a diverse panel of practical and spiritual guides to bring the beauty, intrigue, and perspective of an advice column to life. As an attendee, you'll have the chance to submit anonymous questions on life, career, relationships, habits, goals, and more, which our panelists will discuss and explore. The session promises to be a unique evening navigating life's realities -- with the full range of Quidi Vidi Brewery products on tap.


November 10-12 - StartUp Weekend (Holyrood) 

We will be assembling in the ocean tech hub at Holyrood  (transportation provided from St. John's) and developing your ideas for startups dealing with things unique to this place. Ocean tech, geomatics, the fishery, environmental, offshore oil & gas, ROVs, marine science, transportation, etc. If you have an idea, this is the opportunity to join your fellow creative comrades in building a startup in 54 hours.

November 15 - MCE Marketing for Entrepreneurs

This will be part of a series to help entrepreneurs learn valuable skills.

November 16 - MCE Sales for Entrepreneurs

This will be part of a series to help entrepreneurs learn valuable skills. This session will be facilitated by John Beresford. 

November 18 - FreeForm presents Health & Wellbeing for Girls & their Feminist Caregivers

This session will give girls (9-12*) and the people who love and care for them the knowledge to navigate puberty, self love, girls' and women's rights, and healthcare -- in an explicitly feminist learning environment. The day is designed to be shared in a pair, and tickets are available for $25/pair**.

November 21 - NLOWE Mingle Jingle & Networking

This event will give participants the chance to network with other professionals at Whink which will have 20% off for guests. 


November 22 - MCE Banking for Entrepreneurs

This session will be a lunch and learn with lunch provided by MCE. 

November 23 - Gen YYT Mixer

Gen YYT (the young professional under 40 networking initiative) presents a first look at one of the most contemporary and hottest hotels in downtown St. John's - The ALT Hotel. Join your peers and bring a friend for this unique networking experience.

November 29 - Hacking Health Cafe

Hacking Health (HH) is a global movement to transform healthcare through creative collaboration between healthcare professionals and technology creators. Some of the ways that HH is transforming healthcare: Cafés: where people and ideas mingle. This is where community begins and expands.
